How does this work?
As Lorenzo Ghiglieri’s fame grew following his selection to sculpt the “Official American Bald Eagle” for the U.S. government and a commission for a painting to Queen Elizabeth, the requests for donations to non-profit organizations began to grow rapidly. Lorenzo was a very generous man and wanted to help whenever possible. At first he donated many dozens of sculptures for charity events and auctions, but as the word of his generosity spread, it became impossible for him to continue to donate so many works of art and absorb the cost at his expense. Eventually Lorenzo had to start saying no to many requests.
Eventually, after struggling with how to help, a plan to help many more non-profit organizations was developed. The greatest cost in creating bronze art is the first one. In a limited edition series, once a mold is created from the original, additional pieces in the edition have a much lower “cost” to make.
The Ghiglieri family developed a model specifically to support non-profit organizations. Over 20 years later the family has helped raise over $50 million for charities using this new model. Essentially this business model allows the company to cover the “cost” of creating the piece of art through a simple revenue sharing formula. Using this formula the Foundation covers the cost of the piece by establishing a minimum sale price that covers casting and shipping and some additional costs. By doing this, the company has allowed thousands of non-profits to offer Ghiglieri art at their events and raise money through auctions without too heavy a burden on the Foundry.
Now, the Ghiglieri family NEVER has to say “no” to a non-profit that asks for help.
